After researching the best asexual dating sites, I came to the conclusion that the best option for me was a site called Acebook. I soon realised that it was far more than just a dating site. It’s more like a full blown asexual community. So I really want to share that with all of you!
If you’re just visiting the site for the first time, you might think that the site looks pretty basic. I have to admit that it is not very inviting for new users. The home page is effectively a long list of terms and conditions which I still haven’t read. But if you click through that then you will be taken to the sign up page. It is important to note that all your details can be changed later on, including your name, gender, and birthday. Otherwise it should be easy enough to check all the right boxes. And then you’re in!
After you’ve made your account, you will notice that the home page looks completely different for members who are logged in. Straight away, you can see that there is really a lot going on! We have all the latest forum posts on the left, latest blog posts on the right, and new user profiles at the bottom.
The personal profiles themselves are probably typical of any other dating site. However, they are more focused on the text section. Which is definitely a good thing in my opinion! There is plenty of space to write all about yourself and whatever information you think might be useful to a potential partner. You also have space to upload one (small) photo which will be displayed in the forum. I thought having one photo would be a pain, but I actually don’t mind it so much, since I am someone who values personality over appearance anyway. I think that’s the case for many asexual people as well! I really like the fact that the content is only visible to other members. It makes me feel like I have my own little bubble where I can really be myself. Which is awesome!
The search function on this site is very good. You can search by age, gender, location, and romantic preferences. You can even just set your search to friends only if you are not looking for a relationship, which is something I didn’t realise at first! The only thing is that you can’t search the profile description which may make it difficult to find people with similar interests. But there is always the forum for that!
The forum is very reminiscent of the old-school forums we used to have back in the day. I’d say it is most comparable to AVEN, which is currently the largest forum (outside Reddit) for asexual people. Though it is not quite as active, there is still a reasonable amount of activity and discussions about various topics. If you post something then you are bound to get a few decent replies.
The blogs are very much the same. Every new post will automatically be shared on the home page of the site, so all other members can see it. And of course you can read other member’s posts as well! I was surprised to find that there is a very active community on there. It’s a great way of getting to know someone on a deeper level.
If you haven’t already, then I definitely recommend joining! It really is a fantastic place to meet new people. Feel free to comment your usernames below, and I will be sure to add you on there!
If you haven’t heard of the konmari method then you must be living under a rock! It all started ten years ago with Marie Kondo’s “Life Changing Magic”. It’s the first self-help book I ever read, and to this day it’s still the one that has had the biggest impact.…Keep reading…
